It's ideal when GPS data is needed, but there is no signal or GPS receiver available. Using this software complex NMEA sentences from different data inputs can be generated. Standard version of "GPS generator" can operate in two modes: Map mode. In this mode map file is chosen, start, finish coordinates (geodetic lat/lon) and speed are assigned. "GPS generator" calculates heading and current coordinates and then generates GPS output data. Current simulated position and heading are shown on the map. During the simulation heading and speed can be changed. File mode. In this mode NMEA log file and position in the file are chosen. "GPS generator" reads NMEA sentences and shows current position on the map. During the simulation current reading position in file can be changed (move forward and backward). So in this mode previously gathered GPS log data can be replayed (including GPS log, written in map mode). This software can be used as a GPS simulator using a hardware null-modem (COM port - rs232) cable or a virtual serial port software. Generated NMEA 0183 sentences can be saved to a file or be given to other software through COM port. The sentences are recognized by any NMEA compatible mapping software. Thus mapping or navigation software will work with this generator as with a real GPS receiver. Also an option to generate random CRC error in NMEA protocol can be set. This feature can be used to test GPS software stability.
